In the H2 series, LiDAR remains continuously active during both mapping and mowing. Beyond traditional positioning and obstacle avoidance, LiDAR also plays a key role in real-scene mapping and terrain adaptation. Its functions include:
1. Positioning
LiDAR continuously scans the yard environment and measures precise distances to grass, walls, trees, and other reference objects. This enables accurate positioning, which allows the H2 series to operate even without network RTK. However, performance improves further when network RTK is integrated.
2. Obstacle Avoidance
Conventional mowers rely only on cameras for obstacle avoidance, which provide 2D information and perform poorly in detecting holes, steps, and similar obstacles. The H2 series combines 2D camera images with 3D data from LiDAR scanning, enabling precise detection of holes, steps, and other complex scenarios.
3. Real-scene Mapping
By generating accurate 3D point-cloud maps, LiDAR allows the H2 series to build a real-scene map of the yard. Unlike traditional lawn mowers that require on-site manual control mode to adjust the boundary for the map, the H2 leverages this precise real-scene map to enable users to remotely modify boundaries directly on the app by simply drawing with their finger.
4. Terrain Adaptation
LiDAR helps detect uneven ground, slopes, bumps, depressions, and other terrain variations in real time. The mower can then automatically adjust its driving strategy to maintain stability, protect the blades, and ensure consistent mowing quality.
